The Samba Band performed at the Brighton Carnival and won the award for Best Sound - beating heavy competition from some big established adult carnival groups from all over London and the South East. As the only school band taking part in the event, they also had their preparations filmed for ITV Meridian on Thursday, 10th July at school and reported on Meridian News the following evening, together with student interviews.

Dan Bernstein (Chair, Brighton Carnival Trust) came to Monday's School Assembly to present the award to Robbie Mitchell, Head of Performing Arts. Commenting on the award, he noted: "This is one of the proudest days of my 24 years in teaching. It's particularly exciting since the band is student-led, all under 16, and they also compose and arrange much of the material themselves. "
