Sandgate Road Street Party 2008
Nothing could dampen the spirits of the Sandgate Road residents at their first street party since the Silver Jubilee in 1977. Neither rain nor gales could stop the fun on Sunday 6th July.
The children enjoyed face painting, hook a duck, lucky dip, tin-can alley and were amazed by the magician from Pete's Parlour. Local DJ Steve Jones played gallantly through the wet weather.
Much laughter was had in the line dancing where ‘caller' Debbie Parker had everyone dancing with invisible umbrellas!
Lisa Attwell from ‘Lilybud Gardens by Design', kindly judged the best front garden competition. Aptly named Shirley Gardiner was winner of Best Dressed Garden. The Traditional section winners were Nicky & Bob. Colleen & Aidan won Best Modern Garden.
The Varndean Samba Band chased away the clouds by the time everyone started to devour the food. Local bands ‘The Singing Group' and ‘Silverstream' ended a great day.
Special thanks to organizers Guy, Annie, Jo, Lucy, Rena, Sarah and Sascha.
