Christmas Nativity Play at St Matthias Church

Children are, and always have been, a very important part of church life at St Matthias.  The church hall is familiar to many children in the area as a venue for groups such as Rainbows, Brownies etc and numerous parties !  However, these days it is not a given that children will have much to do with church itself or go to Sunday School.

In past years it was different and many of you, either as a parent or child, will remember the very popular Children's Church run each Sunday morning at St Matthias by David and Maggie Brooks and enthusiastic helpers.  In recent years the format for Children's Church has changed to a smaller  meeting and is a little more integrated into the adult service.  However, we can still boast a group of keen and committed youngsters who are a vital part of church life.
A highlight for them is the production of their Nativity Play - this innovative service always takes place on Christmas Eve and is hugely popular, literally standing room only !  Many of you will have come along each year to hear the Christmas message, a joyous start to your festivities.  And this year will be no exception - the team are already hard at work, planning and rehearsing.  So don't forget to note your diary for Christmas Eve 4.00 pm - bring all the family to the St Matthias Nativity Play.
And, also, keep an eye on us in the New Year as we are planning a few changes in our work with children - in particular we hope to develop a monthly service specifically for children and their parents.  In the church hall, informal and fun, we see this as a gentle introduction to church life.  Look out for more publicity and details.
And, in the meantime, our children are looking forward to their Nativity Play on Christmas Eve.  See you there !
